Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Danillo began training BJJ in 2000 at the Ryan Gracie Academy. He earned a bachelor's degree in Tourism and Hospitality and initially worked in the tourism industry. In 2005, he moved to Australia with his fiancée, aiming to travel and improve his English. Just before relocating, he was awarded his Purple Belt.
After settling in Australia, Danillo made the life-changing decision to pursue his passion for Jiu-Jitsu full time. In 2011, he opened the first Gracie Barra school on the Central Coast. Today, he is the Founder and Head Instructor of Gracie Barra Central Coast and Gracie Barra Tuggerah. Together with his team, he has introduced the benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to over 1,500 families in the region.
Danillo is known not just for his technical skills, but for his dedication to student development—both on and off the mats. His classes focus on building confidence, discipline, and community, making a lasting impact on students of all ages and backgrounds.
Beyond teaching, Professor Danillo also contributes to The BJJ Performance Study—a research project that investigates the factors influencing performance and injury risk in BJJ athletes. This study is a collaboration between Newcastle University, the Gracie Barra Association, the Australian Institute of Sport, and the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. His involvement reflects a commitment to the long-term well-being and development of BJJ practitioners around the world.
Now an Australian citizen and proud father, Danillo continues to lead by example, combining world-class instruction with the values of Gracie Barra: brotherhood, integrity, and development. Whether you're stepping onto the mat for the first time or training to compete at the highest level, Professor Danillo is dedicated to guiding each student on their personal journey through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
I’ve been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for 11 years, and what started as a personal challenge has become one of the most defining parts of my life. My journey began back home in São Paulo, Brazil, where I first stepped onto the mats and discovered not only the physical demands of BJJ but also the mental discipline and dedication it requires. In 2018, I made the life-changing decision to move to Australia to learn English, not knowing that this would open the door for me to work with what I truly love—teaching and training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Since then, BJJ has given me countless opportunities, both on and off the mats, and it has become more than just a sport; it’s been a path of growth, resilience, and connection. Throughout my competitive journey, I’ve been fortunate to achieve some of my biggest goals, including winning the Australian Nationals in 2023 and the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in 2023. These titles are milestones that reflect not just the hard work I’ve put in, but also the support of my coaches, teammates, and students who inspire me every day. For the past five years, I’ve also dedicated myself to coaching, helping others use BJJ as a tool to transform their lives. Guiding students through their own journeys—whether it’s for fitness, competition, or personal development—has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I believe that BJJ teaches far more than just techniques; it builds confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of community. As both a competitor and a coach, I continue to learn every day, always striving to improve, to give back, and to inspire others to discover their own strength through Jiu-Jitsu. The mats have taught me that progress is never linear, but with consistency and heart, anything is possible.
